Lake Lefroy Land Sailing Club regatta...

Arrived and Friday and was able to fly the new Ozone R1 7m, it was about 6-7 knots. 

Yesterday was a lot of sitting around waiting for the wind but did get a play at about 3. The frustrating thing is that areas of the lake are still quite wet and we are using the ponds which are surrounded by causeways - so you quite rapidly run out of room.

They also have some water on them in places, so the salt spray is bad. Ended up not being able to see, through a combination of salt and sun-screen in my eyes - just couldn't keep them open! 

The kite, buggy and other gear is going to need a really good clean when I get home.

Lots of wind overnight and it's still blowing this morning, though we have had a few spots of rain. It's then a case of seeing which areas are driest. I'm hoping that if the wind is more consistent I can get some video.

The Ozone R1 7m is an awesome kite, i did fly it in 6-7 knots on the first day, then had a bit of trouble trying to get it to launch in next to nothing yesterday morning. But in the afternoon it really came into its own, with fantastic acceleration, super quick, tight turns, and  huge potential for speed - just need a bit more space and consistent wind!

Lake Walyungup - officially open for business!

As of the weekend Lake Walyungup was officially opened for access, allowing the model aircraft club and the land-yachts to drive onto the lake. The cars of the model aircraft club were there in dribs and drabs from about 7am and we saw the first of the land-yachts arriving about 10.45am.

There were not any issues with the model aircraft as we all managed to stay out of each others way as there is still plenty of room for us all to play with our toys. And we did need to scoot around the edge of their flying area to re-unite Rob with his stuff! 

 As long as we don't get any-more of this...

I am happy to continue to walk, or fly down the lake and have no urge to drive on (I am still young and fit enough to cope!) and I can carry my kit with me. I look forward to a long summer of kite buggying on Lake Walyungup...

Or it rained last night!

Which is good in a selfish kite buggying kinda way!

From the first of December the DEC usually allows vehicles onto the lake, if you are a member of a club - like the land yachts and the model aircraft club, as the lake is usually dry enough to allow vehicles access. This means on a weekend morning the model aircraft move from near the car park, where they have been all winter, driving onto the lake and parking in the middle and then flying their little planes! (see the map)

Because of the storms last week they were still restricted to near the car park on Sunday and with the rain last night - which was substantial and with more forecast for the next couple of days, hopefully the DEC will keep the gates locked and the planes near the car park.

Officially kite-buggies aren't allowed onto the lake, but we don't drive onto the lake, which is the issue when it is wet and causing damage, and we have no or very minimal environmental impact. 

The biggest cause of rubbish etc. on the lake is smashed up model planes (it's always good to see one crash!), but the "pilots" seem to have an inability to clear away the pieces. The etc. is dog-logs or sh1t that the owners leave behind!

The land yachts have access in the afternoon and are always interested in the kites and buggies.
