Wind confusion...

After being very confuddled with the wind forecast on Willy Weather yesterday, unexpectedly the trees started to move so I headed to Lake Walyungup.

I started with the 10m Ozone Manta...

Until it became over-powered then switched to the 6m Ozone Access...

And had just over an hour of buggying...

It definitely has its advantages living so close to such a great buggying location.

Video - kite buggy, Soloshot 2

Kite buggying on lake Walyungup.

Another great morning in the buggy, winds were 18 knots with gusts up to 25. Had a blast until the wind changed direction to a northerly then a big walk back! Got some good video using the Soloshot 2 with the camcorder and the GoPro...

Too windy...

Down at Lake Walyungup and it's howling! 18-25 knots. Buggied part way down the lake and then landed the kite as it was a bit scary.

The Ozone Access 6m is supposed to be good up to 25 knots - but I'm not!

It's really says something when the fully loaded buggy moves in its own!

What's the best thing to do when you OBE?

Make sure you get it on video!

Yesterday started off fine I even checked the wind before getting the 10m Ozone Manta out, it was 8-10 knots and was forecast to drop. Hooked in and set off down the lake - all good.

This was my first outing with the Soloshot 2, after reading the instructions a few times (yes I am a man and yes I do read instructions!) I thought it might be a bit tricky to set up - but it was very straight forward and pretty simple to get it paired and calibrated.

I had some good runs with the Manta and the green LED on the front of the Soloshot 2 is really visible, even from a distance in bright sun - so you know it is tracking you.

The wind did appear to be increasing as I was going sideways a fair bit and a gust flipped the buggy with me in it! Without the hotwire I think I would have been lofted a fair way and then dropped. The best thing was the Soloshot 2 recorded all this...

Only a couple of minor grazes and bruises!

Best of all I got it on video!

Ended up playing on the Ozone Access 6m and as forecast the wind dropped! Not the best days kite buggying but a good test of the Soloshot 2.

I wasn't sure how the Soloshot 2 was going to work, I played around with the zoom levels and the positioning of the camera and the RAW footage is great.

The only downside is my JVC camcorder isn't compatible with the auto-zoom function and the battery top up. But otherwise really happy - if not a little stiff and sore today!

Converted...

I have just got back from my first hotwire experience and I'm a convert!

The wind was 14, gusting to 21 knots flying the 6m Access. Launched using the harness and then hooked into the Hotwire. First few runs felt a bit strange but soon got used to the feeling of not being hooked directly to the kite.

It was awesome, where as gusts would of lifted my backside from the seat and scared the sh1t out of me I just kept going, if not for the Hotwire I would have probably packed up and gone home - too scared!

I would of also de powered the access using the trimmer, but felt confident and secure enough to fly fully powered. On a couple of occasions when a big gust did hit (it was the remenants of tropical cyclone Olwyn) the buggy automatically turned slightly downwind. I did reposition the straps further back after a couple of runs as the front initially felt a bit light.

Slides etc were all the same as being harnessed and the bug felt stable and not once did a rear wheel lift or it feel like it was going to turtle.

Landing was the same as ever powerslide and as the kite de powered grab the brake strap and down it would come.

I would like to get the technique for hooking in and launching in the buggy sorted, then I could do away with the harness completely.

Encumberences...

I went buggying after work today, the wind was blowing anywhere between 7-20 knots and swinging all over the place. I purposely left the GoPro's at home and ended up leaving my phone in the car. So no Endomondo or pictures either!

Buggying for buggying sake! Without encumbrances...

Video - Kite buggying, Esperance

Kite buggying on Le Grand Beach in Esperance.

I was that excited for my first buggy on the beach I wasn't going to mess about with too many camera angles, so just went with the good old helmet cam!

On-shore wind 15+ knots.

Nicked..?

Whats missing?

My Garmin etrex! I have had the buggy, kites, board, helmet, pads and harness stored in my car for the last few days  - just in case!

Unloaded it all today and there was no etrex! I did leave the car unlocked for an hour or so at the shops the other day so presume it went then, lucky everything else was there.

Video - buggy blast

Easter Monday at the salt lake, playing in the buggy and with the board...

Chose a part of the lake with a softer surface to board, which was good as I did end up on the floor a few times and ended up bruising my backside!
